THE
SKIN INSTITUTE & SCHOOL OF DERMATOLOGY
(SISD) was founded by Dr. P.N. BEHL,
ex -professor & Head of the Department
of Dermatology, Maulana Azad Medical College,
to promote academic dermatology and to provide
humane medical services without financial harassments.
Recognizing the difficulties
and handicaps of both, bureaucratic and
private set-ups, it was decided to chalk
out a middle course using the initiative
of the private sector, the zeal of missionaries
and the service of a public institution-for
the benefit of both poor and rich. Plans
were made to use the latest technology comparable
with the best available in the world. It
was also decided to keep the institution
self-supporting to avoid borrowing and begging
both from the government and the public,
hence maintain its independence and sustain
its growth.
Professor

(Edinburgh), FICAI, FIAMS, occupied a distinguished
position among the leading physicians in
India, and was a world-renowned dermatologist
